About the Artist:

Andy Warhol (1923–1987), an American artist, was a leading participant in the art movement known as "pop art." His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement that flourished by the 1960s. Warhol evolved into a world-renowned (and sometimes controversial) artist, who's works are highly coveted today. His art used many types of media, including hand drawing, painting, silk screening, printmaking, sculpture, photography, film, and music.

Warhol was also a pioneer in computer-generated art created on computers that were introduced in the early 1980s, mere years before his death in 1987. He managed and produced the Velvet Underground, a rock band that had a strong influence on the evolution of punk rock music. He is also notable as a gay man who lived openly as such before the gay liberation movement. His legendary studio in New York city, The Factory, was a famous gathering place that attracted distinguished intellectuals, drag queens, playwrights, Hollywood celebrities, and wealthy patrons. Warhol's works include some of the most expensive paintings ever sold.
